It felt a bit weird, visiting Stad Amsterdam in Harlingen (Holland), readying for the tall ships race 2014 and not being one of the crew to sail her. Like you belong – I was free to roam her decks – and at the same moment don’t belong – other people walking around and touching lines and things to ready themselves for the race.
On the other hand it was yet another great experience, knowing where you are and where you could be. Understanding what is important and what’s not.
That must have been a sight, a mere century ago. Tall ships readying to set sail for distant horizons, racing each other with a purpose.
Sometimes I feel I’ve been born in the wrong century.
